Time and Tide wins award at London Rocks
We’re excited to announce that our short film trilogy Time and Tide won the ‘Best Mise en Scene’ award at the 2021 London Rocks film festival. We were happy to receive this award in particular as the aim of Moving Pictures Theatre is to produce a cinematic experience that draws from the best of theatre, and mise en scene is described in relation to cinema as including aspects of film that overlap with the theatre such as setting, lighting, costume & the actor’s behaviour.
Time and Tide is a trilogy of short films – The Arena, The Last Lighthouse Keeper, and Homecoming – starring Greta Scacchi, John Locke and Samuel West, each directed by Justin Spray, Marc Green and Jonathan Stow. The film was written by Lucy Nordberg to explore how we approach the past, reconcile it with the present, and face the future. You can read more about the film here
Time and Tide was completed over lockdown, so this is the first film festival the Moving Pictures Theatre team was able to attend in person. London Rocks was established out of a need for a platform for filmmakers to show bold, innovative and authentic films, created internationally and within the city of London. We greatly enjoyed the buzz of a live screening, especially seeing our work alongside all the other films playing that night, from animated shorts to meditations on lockdown, powerful dramas and surreal comedies.
