A homecoming for Time and Tide
The MPT team is looking forward to attending a screening of the Time and Tide trilogy in the company’s home town, with the film showing as part of the Brighton Rocks festival at FABRICA on 23rd July at 7.15pm. The film was also shown at sister festival London Rocks back in November 2021, where it won the award for Best Mise-en-Scene. The full screening schedule is available here, and a link to tickets is here – Time and Tide is in Session 15: FABRICA Saturday.
The venue is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of the city at 40 Duke Street, BN1 1AG. The team is also looking forward to watching the other films in the screening session – an intriguing mix of arthouse and experimental work – before a segue into a reflection on the Russia/Ukraine crisis and an extraordinary documentary.
There are local connections in all three short films that make up Time and Tide, as co-producers Marc Green and Lucy Nordberg set up Moving Pictures Theatre in Brighton. Greta Scacchi and John Locke – stars of The Arena and The Last Lighthouse Keeper – have homes nearby, while the third film (starring Samuel West and appropriately named Homecoming) was shot at Brighton’s Theatre Royal under the restrictions of the covid pandemic.
At the time, Samuel said: “The Playhouse, the palace of fantasy, is paradoxically often the best place for us to hear the truth nowadays. During the pandemic, every empty theatre seems to say to me ‘Here’s what you could have won.’ At a time when my addiction to the live had no fix through plays, gigs or football, it was so good to get onto the stage of the Theatre Royal, Brighton (which I know and love well) for a very personal Homecoming. I’m very grateful to Moving Pictures Theatre for the chance.”
