MPT & ART-O-MATIC research video & VR project
Marc Green and Lucy Nordberg from MPT enjoyed a day in London carrying out research for a new music video and VR project with David Stephenson and Mike Gosling from the band ART-O-MATIC. Photographer Stephen Ball was taking some promotional shots of the band, so Marc and Lucy sneaked into some of the pictures, taken at a range of locations – including the Francis Bacon exhibition Man and Beast at the Royal Academy of Arts. One of ART-O-MATIC’s songs is inspired by Bacon, and the group discussed incorporating his work into the video.
The overall idea of the project is to explore artists and their working methods, looking ‘behind the scenes’ to bring the ideas to life. Another ART-O-MATIC song is about kinetic artist Liliane Lijn – with the lyrics made up from titles of her work – so the group paid Liliane a visit in order to talk about the possibilities of capturing some footage depicting her studio.
In between, there was a trip to Gazelli Art House, the location of an exhibition David Stephenson and gallery founder Mila Askarova held in 2019 to celebrate the art dealer Robert Fraser and the artists he represented. It was exciting to visit the storage area to see the art not currently on display – including works by Jann Haworth – and also, for MPT, particularly interesting to see Gazelli’s VR exhibition space.
